Position Overview

  • Provide skilled, compassionate end-of-life care in an inpatient hospice setting
  • Ensure comfort, dignity, and quality of life for terminally ill patients
  • Supervise and delegate tasks to non-unionized CNAs
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (IDT) for care planning and execution

Essential Responsibilities

🩺 Patient Care & Symptom Management

  • Administer medications and implement interventions per physician orders
  • Monitor and manage patient comfort and symptoms
  • Ensure a dignified and compassionate end-of-life experience

👥 Supervision & Delegation to CNAs

  • Supervise CNAs in providing personal care and support per care plans
  • Delegate appropriate nursing support tasks (ADLs, hygiene, mobility)
  • Mentor CNAs and provide real-time feedback and guidance
  • Review CNA documentation for accuracy and completeness

🤝 Interdisciplinary Team Collaboration

  • Participate in IDT rounds and contribute to care plans and symptom management strategies
  • Coordinate with other healthcare professionals for holistic patient care

📋 Documentation & Compliance

  • Accurately document assessments, interventions, and communications
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and quality standards

💬 Family and Caregiver Support

  • Offer emotional support, education, and guidance to family and caregivers
  • Help families navigate challenges of end-of-life care

🛡️ Infection Control & Safety

  • Follow all infection control and safety protocols for patient and staff well-being

Required Qualifications

  • Current RN license in Montana (or compact license)
  • Minimum 1 year of recent experience in hospice, palliative care, med-surg, or critical care
  • Knowledge of unionized healthcare environments
  • Strong clinical judgment and communication skills
  • BLS certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • CHPN (Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse) certification
  • Prior inpatient hospice experience
  • Familiarity with Electronic Health Records (EHR) – Home Care Home Base a plus
