Key Responsibilities
Provide developmentally and educationally based intervention to improve safety and independence
Implement treatment plans and programs focusing on functional outcomes
Deliver specialized individual and group occupational therapy instruction as mandated in students’ IEPs
Collect data and complete reports regarding student goals and progress
Consult with other professionals on the student's treatment team
Assess and document student progress
Prepare annual review reports and goals for each student
Provide parent and caregiver support and education
Attend school-related meetings
Ensure a suitable learning environment
Provide screenings and evaluations for skilled occupational therapy intervention
Supervise COTA(s) as needed
Communicate with schools and families regarding therapy referrals
Follow safety guidelines for functional mobility
Utilize communication devices and assistive technology
Participate in training programs for students, staff, and families
Required Qualifications
Appropriate State License
NYSED Certification Teacher of the Speech and Hearing Handicapped (TSHH) OR Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD)
Bachelor’s degree in an occupational therapy curriculum accredited by ACOTE standards
Initial registration from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy
Valid and unencumbered occupational therapy license as required in the state of practice
Current CPR Certification
