12 James Surg Onc is a mixed acuity unit that cares for both PCU and Med Surg patients. This is a very busy surgical floor. All perm staff is PCU trained.

Staffing Ratios - Goal is 1:4, but can be 1:5
Weekends - variable based on unit needs
No set/blocked scheduling as that is not something we offer our permanent staff

If you accept a 12D/N rotating contract, you may be scheduled for days, nights, or a combination of both, depending on the department’s needs. Shift assignments are reviewed every 4-week scheduling period, but changes are not guaranteed and are based on staffing priorities at that time.

Self-schedule requests - you will enter your schedule requests so we can see your preferred schedule before balancing and posting the final schedule
First week of orientation is Mon - Fri dayshift. Second week is 36hrs of on-unit orientation with a preceptor

2 Years of Experience Required

Patient Age group
• Adults
• Geriatrics

Patient Diagnoses
• Surgical Oncology: breast, thyroid, melanoma
• Hepatobiliary: liver, pancreas, spleen, biliary tract cancers, neuroendocrine
• Colorectal: colon, rectal cancer
• Plastics: reconstructive breast cancer or sarcoma

Special Procedures/Unit Details
• Chemotherapy
• Blood transfusions
• IV Antibiotics
• Oncologic emergencies
• cytokine release syndrome
• Insulin drips
• Heparin drips
• Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient falls

Certifications Required
• BLS

Certifications Preferred
• ONS Chemo
