ICU RN Job Details

  • Unit: Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
  • Shift: 12-hour night shifts (7P-7A)
  • Hours per Week: 36
  • Contract Duration: 13 weeks (Start: 12/9/2025 – End: 3/7/2026)
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 per week
  • Patient Ratio: 1:2 ICU acuity (may occasionally have a 3rd patient during transitions)
  • Orientation: General hospital orientation plus 1 day on the ICU unit
  • Free Parking: Available in designated areas
  • Estimated Weekly Pay: $1,970 - $2,110

ICU RN Qualifications

  • Active and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Minimum 2 years of recent ICU nursing experience
  • Neuro ICU and Trauma ICU experience required
  • BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Ability to float to Cardiac Care Unit (CCU), Cardiac Stepdown, General PCU, and Pediatric ICU (PICU) if pediatric experience
  • Strong assessment, clinical, and multitasking skills in a high-acuity critical care setting
  • COVID-19 and influenza vaccination required
  • Must not reside in Maine (out-of-state travel nurses preferred)
  • At least 1 year of experience required

ICU Registered Nurse Responsibilities

  • Deliver expert nursing care to medical, surgical, trauma, neuro, ortho, and interventional ICU patients
  • Manage ICP monitoring, external ventricular drains (EVD), spinal precautions, DKA, and multi-system trauma cases
  • Operate and monitor ventilators, critical care drips, drains, stroke protocols, CTs, hemodynamic lines, rhythm recognition, measure strips, chest tubes, and A-lines
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary healthcare team including RT, PT/OT, hospitalists, intensivists, and trauma surgeons
  • Float to other critical care units as needed within scope of practice
  • Document care using CERNER charting system and utilize BD Alaris IV pumps and Pyxis medication dispensing
  • Demonstrate teamwork, punctuality, and the ability to stay calm under pressure
  • Maintain professionalism in appearance (scrubs: any color)
