Med/Surg RN Job Details

• Location: Durham, NC 27704 (North Carolina nursing jobs)
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $1820 - $1950
• Assignment Length: 13 weeks (Start: 12/15/2025 – End: 3/16/2026)
• Healthcare Setting: Medical/Surgical Unit (Adults & Geriatrics)
• Shift: 3x12-hour day shifts (07:00 – 19:30), every other weekend required
• Hours per Week: 36
• Patient Ratio: 1:5
• Orientation: 24 hours (bi-weekly sessions)
• Flu Vaccine: Required (no exemptions)

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg RN experience (medical surgical nursing jobs)
• Active North Carolina or Compact RN license
• BLS certification (must be current)
• Experience with Epic charting system preferred
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred
• Experience with patient ratios of 5-6
• Supervisory reference from within the last year required
• Flu vaccine required (no exemptions)

Med/Surg RN Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric patients with diverse medical diagnoses (diabetes, respiratory issues, altered mental status, and more)
• Monitor and manage patients requiring telemetry, stepdown care (including insulin drips and rescue BiPAP), and special procedures
• Administer medications, manage IVs, central lines, feeding tubes, and perform wound care
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams (IV, PT, RT, pharmacy, social services)
• Float to other hospital units as needed
• Participate in rapid response/code teams and maintain strict isolation precautions
• Document patient care using Epic electronic health records system
• Deliver compassionate support and education to patients and families
