Position Overview

The Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) functions under the supervision of the registered professional nurse and plays a vital role in supporting the surgical team during operative and perioperative procedures. The CST provides safe, age-appropriate, and culturally competent patient care while ensuring that all procedures are conducted in a sterile and organized environment.

This role requires the ability to handle moderate-to-high acuity surgical cases, anticipate the needs of surgeons, and actively support the healthcare team with efficiency, precision, and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare the operative suite and surgical field, ensuring a sterile and safe environment for patient care.
• Gather and organize surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies for scheduled procedures.
• Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and surgical team during procedures and assist as required.
• Troubleshoot surgical instruments and equipment to avoid delays.
• Participate in high-acuity and trauma cases as required.
• Mentor, precept, and assist in training new surgical staff members.
• Support inventory management, ordering, and stocking of operating room supplies.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to develop efficient surgical care plans.
• Maintain compliance with Joint Commission standards and facility protocols at all times.
• Assist in continuous performance improvement initiatives within the perioperative unit.
• Perform other perioperative duties as assigned.

Requirements

• National Certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) – Required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (AHA or Instructor) – Required
• Minimum 1 year of surgical experience (Main OR/Trauma Center experience preferred)
• Strong knowledge of surgical anatomy, instrumentation, and equipment handling.
• Ability to remain calm and efficient in fast-paced, high-acuity surgical settings.
