Job Description

Join the Wake County Public School System as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist, where you will provide essential services to students with visual impairments, enabling them to navigate their environments safely and independently. Your expertise will help foster academic and social success for these students in school and community settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide itinerant orientation and mobility services for students with visual impairments
  • Develop classroom adaptations and instruction for students
  • Perform assessments to determine students' orientation and mobility needs
  • Provide instructional resources and materials related to students' needs
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and other professionals
  • Maintain accurate records and compile reports on student progress

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field
  • Three years experience supporting teachers and students with visual impairments
  • Hold or be qualified to hold a North Carolina Professional Educator’s License in Visually Impaired (VI)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Special Education
  • Certification from Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (ACVREP)
  • Experience teaching students with visual impairments in orientation and mobility
