Key Responsibilities

  • Provide developmentally and educationally based intervention to improve safety and independence
  • Implement treatment plans and programs focusing on functional outcomes
  • Deliver specialized individual and group occupational therapy instruction as mandated in IEPs
  • Collect data and complete reports regarding student goals and progress
  • Consult with other professionals on the student's treatment team
  • Assess and document each student’s progress
  • Write and prepare annual review reports and goals for students
  • Provide parent and caregiver support and education
  • Attend school-related meetings
  • Ensure a suitable learning environment
  • Provide screenings and evaluations for occupational therapy intervention
  • Supervise COTA(s) as needed
  • Maintain quality of therapy records

Required Qualifications

  • Appropriate State License
  • NYSED Certification Teacher of the Speech and Hearing Handicapped (TSHH) OR Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD)
  • Bachelor’s degree in an occupational therapy curriculum accredited by ACOTE standards
  • Initial registration from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy
  • Valid and unencumbered occupational therapy license
  • Current CPR Certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with pediatric populations
  • Willingness to work with medically fragile children
