The Senior Director of Behavior will lead the behavioral care and treatment of animals at the ASPCA's ARC and CARE facilities. This role involves overseeing a dedicated team, ensuring high-quality care, and collaborating on research initiatives to improve animal welfare. The position plays a crucial role in advancing the ASPCA's mission to serve victims of cruelty and neglect in New York City.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee behavioral care and pathway planning for animals
Ensure high-quality, low-stress patient care
Develop and implement behavioral diagnosis and treatment plans
Mentor and train direct care teams and interns
Lead research projects and share knowledge within the organization
Foster relationships with medical and behavior team leaders
Required Qualifications
3+ years’ experience in people management
Ability to work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with staff
Experience working with behaviorally and medically compromised animals
Comfort with humane euthanasia decisions and procedures
Fear Free certified within 6 months of hire
Low Stress Handling – Silver certified or willing to obtain within one year
Preferred Qualifications
Experience developing and overseeing research projects
Experience writing scientific publications for peer-reviewed journals
Interest in contributing to writing publications for non-scientific audiences
