Registered Nurse (RN) – Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)

Location: Carbondale, IL 62901
Duration: 13 Weeks (Possible Extension)

Schedule: 3x12-Hour Shifts | 36 Hours per Week

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Registered Nurse to join our surgical services team in Carbondale, Illinois. The ideal candidate will provide expert post-operative care to patients recovering from anesthesia following surgical or invasive procedures.

This role requires strong critical thinking, advanced assessment skills, and the ability to respond quickly to changes in patient condition in a fast-paced perioperative environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide comprehensive post-anesthesia care to patients immediately following surgical procedures.
• Monitor and assess patients’ vital signs, consciousness, and pain levels throughout the recovery phase.
• Administer medications, oxygen, and treatments as prescribed.
• Recognize and respond to post-operative complications and emergencies.
• Collaborate closely with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and surgical staff to ensure safe and seamless recovery transitions.
• Maintain accurate and detailed documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Provide patient and family education regarding post-operative care and discharge instructions.
• Adhere to hospital policies, infection control, and safety standards.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Active Illinois RN License – Required
• BLS Certification (AHA) – Required
• ACLS Certification (AHA) – Required
• PALS Certification (AHA) – Preferred
• Minimum 2 years of PACU, ICU, or Critical Care experience – Required
• Strong knowledge of post-anesthesia recovery protocols and airway management
• Excellent clinical judgment, multitasking, and communication skills
