Job Description

Join the ASPCA as a Lead Veterinarian, where you'll support a dedicated team in providing high-quality veterinary care to underserved communities. Lead and mentor staff while performing essential surgeries and medical care, all aimed at improving animal welfare and community health.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and monitor medicine and surgery provided at the ASPCA’s veterinary clinics
  • Train veterinarians in high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter techniques
  • Support a positive work culture through regular 1:1s and feedback
  • Conduct annual performance reviews and deliver disciplinary actions as needed
  • Perform pre-surgery physical examinations and approximately 25-40 spay/neuter procedures per clinic day
  • Provide compassionate veterinary care including diagnostics and treatment recommendations

Required Qualifications

  • Current California State Veterinary License
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an AVMA accredited veterinary college
  • Minimum one year of experience in high quality, high volume spay/neuter
  • Minimum three years veterinary experience in small animal medicine and surgery
  • Demonstrate leadership abilities in challenging situations
  • Excellent work attendance record

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous people management experience strongly preferred
  • Fear Free® Shelter certification required within 60 days of hire
