Unit Overview – NICU/Nursery (Level II - Intermediate Care Nursery)
Manager : Will conduct candidate interviews directly.
Charting System : EPIC
Unit Details
- Unit Type : NICU/Nursery – Level II (Intermediate Care Nursery / ICN)
- # of Beds : 30
- Nurse:Patient Ratio : 5–6:1
- Shift Hours : 5:00 PM – 5:30 AM
- Scheduling :
- Block scheduling
- Every other weekend required
- Rotating holidays (every other)
- No on-call or standby requirements
- May float to couplets if census is low
- Scrub Color/Dress Code :
- Hospital-provided scrubs
- Shoes must not be worn outside
Staffing Structure
- Charge Nurse : Present every shift
- Takes a patient assignment
- House Supervisor : On-site during evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Support Staff :
- One scrub tech per shift (primary role: deliveries)
- Monitor Techs : None; RNs read their own strips

Core Clinical Skills ("Must-Haves") :
- Intermediate Care Nursery (ICN) experience
- CPAP use and monitoring
- Blood glucose testing
- Delivery attendance

- IVs and blood draws
- Vitals
- Hearing screens
Drips :
- Titration Required? : No
- Common Drips : IV fluids (IVF), antibiotics
Neonatal Coverage :
- Pediatric Hospitalist in-house 24/7 (with call room on unit)
- Neonatologist : Not in-house 24/7
Respiratory Equipment
- CPAP
- High-flow nasal cannula
- Vents (limited use for transfers; managed and set up by RT)
