Shift Hours: 6am-10am start time, Monday-Friday, flexibility for AM start times. No weekends, no Call

Experience Required/Preferred:
• FNA adequacy experience is a plus:
Experience with Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) and determining if the sample collected is adequate (enough and of good quality for diagnosis) is preferred, but not strictly required.

Certification/Education Required:
• Bachelor’s degree with completion of a CAAHEP-accredited cytotechnology program:
You must have a bachelor’s degree and have graduated from a CAAHEP-accredited (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) program specifically in cytotechnology (the study of cells to detect diseases like cancer).
• ThinPrep Imaging Certification – Required:
You must be certified to use the ThinPrep Imaging System, a tool used to assist in reviewing Pap smear slides.
• ThinPrep Processing Certification – Required:
You must be certified to perform the ThinPrep processing, which involves preparing cervical cells for examination under a microscope.
• Proficiency test completed in 2024 or 2025 (for starts after May 13, 2025):
If you are starting after May 13, 2025, you must have taken and received results for a proficiency test in cytology (Pap screening) in either 2024 or 2025 to prove your competency.

Skills & Responsibilities:
• Primary responsibility: PAP smear screening using the ThinPrep Imager:
Your main task is to screen cervical cell samples (Pap smears) for abnormalities (such as signs of cancer or precancer) using the ThinPrep Imager system.
• May also screen FNA samples and assess adequacy on-site:
You might also screen Fine Needle Aspiration samples and go on-site (like during biopsies) to evaluate if the collected sample is sufficient for diagnosis.
Duties: Job Summary:
• As per departmental guidelines, processes the specimens and stains the smears. Microscopically examines prepared, stained smears to detect structural abnormalities. Classifies smears based on cellular knowledge as normal (negative), abnormal and diagnostic of cancer. Correlate surgical reports from HFH anatomic pathology with cytologic findings. Total number of slides screened not to exceed the limit set by CLIA 88
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Rotate on technical processing, cubicle position, and NGYN screening according to schedule set by leader/supervisor.
• For gynecological specimens (Pap smears), determine which cases should be further evaluated by the cytopathologist, formulate and issue diagnostic reports on normal (negative) cases, and perform follow-up triage on all cases routed to the pathologist before finalization of reports.
• Assist with instructional training of MLT, cytotechnology students, residents, fellows, and the orientation of new staff.
• Maintains competency in the use of information systems used for daily work.
• Maintain documentation as it applies to daily workload, follow-ups, and rotation assignments.
• Attends fine needle aspiration procedures and assists the physician.
• Participates in the laboratory CME program.
• Participate in Quality Improvement program in the laboratory which may include the development of new or improved methods and procedures.
• Maintains laboratory equipment and documents for preventive maintenance and corrective actions.
• Answer the telephone in a courteous and professional manner. Take and relay messages for laboratory personnel, supervisor and division head. Relay all cytology results to clinician.
• Any task related to cytopathology assigned by the supervisor, cytopathologists and Division Head of Cytopathology.

• Vision Near Acuity: Ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less.
• Depth Perception: Ability to judge distance and space relationships.

• Color Vision: Ability to distinguish and identify different colors necessary to perform job functions.
Education: Required Education:
• A bachelor’s degree with successful completion in CAAHEP accredited program in cytotechnology.
