Job Description
The Senior Director of Behavior at ASPCA will oversee the behavioral care and planning for animals at the Animal Recovery Center and Canine Annex, ensuring their medical and behavioral welfare. This role involves leading a team of experts, collaborating on research projects, and implementing best practices in animal care.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee behavioral care and pathway planning for ARC and CARE animals
Ensure high quality individualized care and low stress handling
Lead and facilitate research projects related to animal behavior
Cultivate relationships with team leaders for best practices
Mentor and manage a team of behavior experts
Required Qualifications
3+ years’ experience in people management
Ability to work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
Ability to work well within a team and communicate effectively
Fear Free certified within 6 months of hire
Must feel comfortable with humane euthanasia decisions
Ability to work additional hours and respond to after-hours concerns
Preferred Qualifications
Interest in developing/overseeing research projects
Experience writing scientific publications
Low Stress Handling – Silver certified or can obtain by end of first year
