Key Responsibilities
Perform examination and dissection of specimens, ensuring proper documentation and processing
Describe and section specimens, applying appropriate fixation and processing techniques for microscopic evaluation
Photograph and document specimens, lesions, and tissue abnormalities for clinical and educational purposes
Ensure proper labeling, accessioning, and tracking of all specimens to maintain accurate patient records
Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards
Implement time management skills to optimize workflow and turnaround times
Adhere to quality control procedures to ensure accuracy in specimen handling and documentation
Assist with proper maintenance of equipment, provision of adequate supplies, and cleanliness of the surgical pathology suite
Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice
Adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards
Required Qualifications
One year of recent experience as a Pathology Assistant
Valid license when needed in compliance with any state regulations
Preferred Qualifications
National certification through ASCP or equivalent such as AMT, AAB, HEW certifications
Current BLS certification (AHA/ARC)
Other certifications or licenses may be required for this position
