The PRN RN in the Digestive Disease Post-Op unit at Cleveland Clinic provides direct nursing care to post-operative colorectal surgery patients. This part-time role requires rotating shifts and a minimum of two years’ nursing experience along with relevant licensure and certifications.

The H50 Colorectal Surgery Unit is part of Cleveland Clinic’s Digestive Disease Institute, where surgeons perform more than 5,000 surgical procedures annually. A caregiver in this position works rotating days/nights from 7:00AM—7:30PM and 7:00PM—7:30AM.  This a PRN role - a PRN is required to work 48 hours in a 6 week period.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Provide direct nursing care. 
• Implement, monitor, evaluate, update and revise patient care plans.
• Monitor, record, document and communicate patients’ conditions.
• Administer prescribed medications and treatments. 
• Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
• Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs. 
• Educate patients and their families.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Graduate from an accredited school of Professional Nursing 
• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) 
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) 
• External applicants must have two years recent related nursing experience.
• Internal applicants with less than two years’ experience but post orientation /90 day probationary period could be considered with Chief Nursing Officer level review and approval.

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

• Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Physical Requirements:

• Full range of body motion for handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination
• Standing and walking for extended periods of time
• Corrected vision and hearing to normal range
• Working under stressful conditions and irregular hours
• Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids
• Medium Work , exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
• Physical Demand requirements in excess of those for Light Work

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required
