Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join the combined Critical Care Unit (CCU) and Medical/Surgical team OR stepdown. This position involves providing comprehensive bedside care to a diverse patient population ranging from med/surg to higher-acuity CCU cases. The ideal candidate will have strong assessment skills, critical thinking ability, and confidence in managing both stable and intermediate-care patients.

General Job Duties

  • Perform patient assessments and document findings accurately in the Epic EMR system
  • Administer medications using Pyxis and bar code scanning technology
  • Monitor telemetry and vital signs; recognize and respond to changes in patient condition
  • Perform nursing procedures such as IV starts , NG tube placement , and other bedside tasks
  • Communicate effectively with physicians and the interdisciplinary care team
  • Maintain patient safety and provide compassionate, high-quality care

Equipment Utilized

  • Epic EMR for documentation
  • Pyxis medication dispensing system
  • Bar code scanning for medication administration
  • Telemetry monitoring systems , vital signs monitors , and bladder scanners

Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of recent hospital experience in a higher-acuity setting (Stepdown or ICU strongly preferred)
  • Licensure: Active RN license (state or compact)
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (AHA) – Required
    • ACLS (AHA) – Required
    • NIHSS – Strongly preferred

Shift & Scheduling

  • Typical schedule: 3x12-hour shifts per week
  • No on-call requirements
  • Must work at least 3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
  • Nurses will not work alone

Floating

  • No floating to other departments required; this position covers both Med/Surg and CCU within the same unit

Unit Details

  • Total Beds: 22 (18 Med/Surg and 4 CCU beds)
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio:
    • Med/Surg: 5:1
    • CCU: Variable depending on acuity

Dress Code

  • Caribbean Blue scrubs
  • Undershirts or jackets in black, white, or Caribbean blue permitted

Orientation

  • Epic training: 2-day class (mandatory)
  • Unit orientation: As needed
  • Schedule:
    • Week 1: Monday–Friday (8-hour days)
    • Week 2: Monday–Tuesday (8-hour days)
  • Attendance: Mandatory for all 7 days of orientation
