Position Purpose:
Acts as technical information resource for MercyOne Des Moines Laboratory.Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance and/orresults and uses knowledgeand skillsto troubleshoot and resolve them.Consults with Medical Technologists and/or Medical Laboratory Scientists when appropriate. Performs tasks and procedures specific to assigned section with minimal supervision.
What you will do:
Uses educational and technicalexpertiseto troubleshoot issues related to specimen quality, instrument/method performance and analytical interferences to ensure patient results match clinical status.Assistsand supports quality management systems and performance improvement initiatives.
Works independently, organizing work to meet established deadlines and records. Maintains supply inventories.
Trains new employeesand acts as preceptor for laboratory students.
Operates laboratory information systems, personal computers, and instrument-related computer software.
Providesexceptional customer service to internal and external customers.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate’sdegree in science-related field.
Successful completion of a NAACLS or ABHES accredited MLT program oralternate career path that meets certification eligibility requirements.
Certification in one of the following:
Medical LaboratoryTechnician (MLT)by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
MedicalLaboratory Technician(MLT) by the American Medical Technologists (AMT).
A person may be hired into this position if he/she has completed the requirements for registration for the certification exam.The exam must be successfully completed within six (6) months of hire.
Strong communicationand interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational and multi-tasking skillsrequired.
