Job Description
Join Chesapeake Oncology Hematology Associates as a Student Medical Assistant Extern and gain hands-on experience in a collaborative, patient-centered environment. You'll support patient care by assisting with medical procedures, maintaining compliance standards, and ensuring a welcoming atmosphere for patients.
Key Responsibilities
Escort patients to and from the exam room and complete patient intake
Clean and straighten exam room between patients
Prepare syringes and administer subcutaneous and intra-muscular injections
Assist provider with injectable procedures
Prepare and route pathology and lab specimens
Respond to patient questions in office and via phone
Schedule or re-schedule appointments as necessary
Work in compliance with OSHA and HIPAA standards
Maintain medication samples and discard out-of-date supplies
Train other employees on medical assistant duties
Assist with check-in or check-out procedures as needed
Required Qualifications
Completion of a Medical Assistant or Certified Nursing Assistant program
Professionalism and strong customer service skills
Ability to communicate with doctors and patients clearly
Ability to lift at least 15 pounds
Ability to stand for prolonged periods
Preferred Qualifications
At least one year of medical assisting experience
Thrives in a fast-paced environment
Works well within a team
