Behavioral Health Unit/Psychiatric Registered Nurse (BHU/Psych RN)

Unit Description: Join our dedicated team in a 14-bed mental health unit specializing in the care of children and adolescents in transition.
Additional Information:
- Position: BHU/Psych RN
- Experience Required: Minimum of 3 years as a Behavioral Health RN with children.
Overview: The Behavioral Health RN provides essential nursing services to patients requiring care. The role involves assessing the physical, psychosocial, and learning needs of patients, and developing, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive plan of care based on those assessments. The RN will also delegate appropriate tasks and supervise ancillary staff.
About the Unit:
- 24/7 onsite security to assist nursing staff, techs, and ancillary staff during restraint episodes.
- Portable panic alarms carried by each staff member to signal for code grey behavioral health assistance, which become GPS-enabled when activated.
- Utilization of physical restraints/therapeutic holds, locked seclusion rooms, and 4-point locked Velcro restraints.
- Average nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:7.
- Staffing includes 3 techs/child life counselors for a census of 10 or more.
- Additional staff/sitters provided for 1:1 close observation as ordered or needed.
- Charting systems: Bridgeton & Woodbury use Omnicell; Mannington uses Pyxis.
- Units include Bridgeton CAMHU, IBCU (both children's), VAMHU, AMHU, as well as Woodbury AMHU and Mannington AMHU.
- Candidates must be willing to float between campuses to support psychiatric units within client.
- Minimum of 2 years experience with children and adolescents in a psychiatric unit is required.
- Must list requested time off (RTO) on the cover page; no additional RTO will be approved after the offer.
Experience and Requirements:
- Licensure: NJ RN license or compact.
- Contract Length: 13 weeks.
- Specialty: Minimum of 2 years experience in a psychiatric setting.
- Weekend/Schedule: 12-hour shifts, Sunday to Saturday; must be available on weekends.
- Holiday: Every other holiday.
- RTO: No more than 3 days.
- Certifications: BLS, PALS (AHA).
- Scrub Color: Navy.
- Charting: Cerner.
Call off:
- Client may cancel (call-off) up to one (1) shift per two week period without paying for the cancelled hours.
First day instructions(FDI):
- FDI are emailed directly by the hospital. Please expect 3 emails on the Friday before Monday start date. Please be sure to look in the junk folder as well – emails are sent usually around 2:00 pm on Friday.
- Monday is a virtual day - Teams call starts around 8:30 - 9 am. Invite/link sent via email. After the Teams meeting, continue the day with 'at your pace' modules sent by the facility.
- Badge appointment is emailed by the facility to issue the badge and review policy/procedures. The ID badge is very important to obtain prior to Orientation Shift. This is how you will clock in and out – so you can be paid accurately.
- Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday – orientation classes are scheduled ONSITE 1-4 hours long in early afternoon and details are sent after Monday meeting is completed. These are MUST attend and cannot be rescheduled or missed- you will take the end of class assignment which is required to schedule the orientation shift.
- Orientation shift - Fri/Sat/Sun shift which will be at the time of the shift hired for and schedule will be made available after Tue/Wed/Thur orientation classes have been completed.
- The POCT class is scheduled for the 2nd or 3rd week of the assignment. Please share your POCT class date with us once received and remember to attend.
- You must be available for the full 7 days of the first week for Orientation. No special scheduling is permitted for orientation. If you cannot attend or miss any part of the full orientation the offer will be rescinded.
