The Patient Safety Officer (PSO) is crucial in developing and overseeing the Patient Safety program, acting as a liaison on safety issues. This role minimizes incidents affecting patients and staff while collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure compliance with safety standards and improve clinical quality.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and oversee the Patient Safety program
Conduct and coordinate performance improvement functions
Collaborate with Risk Manager on compliance with standards
Engage providers in clinical and process improvement initiatives
Develop methods for reporting patient safety events
Identify and respond to patient safety trends
Facilitate Root Cause Analysis
Participate in safety culture improvements
Provide consultation and training on patient safety
Required Qualifications
Healthcare quality/patient safety or clinical experience
Hospital regulatory expertise (CMS, DNV GL, or other hospital regulatory body)
