Orientation: • Develops, organizes, and coordinates orientation program and the schedule for clinical staff including: nursing, social work, chaplains, admissions, bereavement and other clinical support staff. • Ensures completion of RN, LPN and CNA/HHA competencies and skills. • Maintains a tracking system for orientation, mandatory education, and required certifications. • Administers written test and skills validations for CAN//HHA based on state requirements. • Serves as an educational resource for clinical employees. • Monitors employee progress throughout the orientation period. • Adapts orientation to meet the specific needs and learning styles of new employees. • On a regular basis provides feedback to the coordinator and/or preceptor regarding employee progress during orientation. • Oversees the Nursing Preceptor Program in conjunction with Patient Care Coordinators to facilitate a seamless transition from orientation into clinical roles based on employee job descriptions. • Is a member of the CHC Orientation Education Committee. Training: • Serves as the resource and content expert for the Clinical Documentation System. • Educates staff on contracted pharmacy role and how to order medications. • Provides one-on-one training to individual employees based on performance issues as requested from Patient Care Coordinators or from Quality Improvement initiatives with identified needs. • Validates clinical competency in conjunction with Nursing Leadership, under the direction of the Quality Assurance and Medical Records Coordinator. • Plans, creates, and delivers annual skills fairs and trunk inspections for nursing staff. • Provides basic tuberculosis and TB Skin Test training to CHC staff. • Identifies core clinical competencies that are required through Medicare Conditions of Participation and State Licensure guidelines. • Collaborates with the Volunteer Recruitment Coordinator to deliver primary and annual clinical care training to volunteers. Employee Health: • Oversees Flu immunization program in conjunction with Human Resources. • Ensures new clinical staff’s TB clearance documentation is present in the QA OSHA employee record. • Oversees the Infection Control Plan in conjunction with the QA/Medical Records Coordinator.
Infection Control: • Responsible for maintaining and tracking employee exposure occurrences and ensuring appropriate employee health and OSHA records are maintained. • Response for review and update of the Exposure Control Plan at least annually, and whenever necessary to include new or modified tasks and procedures. • Facilitates Agency infection control efforts through the Infection Control Quality Assurance Department. Education: • Provides monthly CNA/HHA in-services and training in accordance with State regulations. • Coordinates with the Assistant Director of Nursing the hospice clinical experience for student nurses. • Plans, develops and implements nursing education, this includes: administering educational needs assessments, publishing education calendars, and course development in conjunction with Nursing Leadership and under the direction of the QA/Medical Records Coordinator. • Provides annual education on OSHA Exposure Control, including Blood Borne Pathogen and Infection Control education. • Provides or coordinates training on CHC’s specialty programs (HeartWize, BreatheEazy and Dementia Care) to all Clinical employees through Cardio-Pulmonary Boot Camp or other presentations. • Provides or Coordinates training in ELNEC, CHPN and other courses on End of Life Care patient care to clinical staff. • Provides or coordinates ongoing Clinical Education programs using various teaching methods, includes Webinar facilitation. • Oversees the provision of clinical education programs by documentation of staff attendance and competency completions for clinical employees. • Demonstrates written, verbal, and interpersonal skills necessary in developing presentations which are conducive to the intended audience. • Develops education programs in conjunction with the QA/Medical Records Coordinator based on identified programs for improvement. • Assists in development, implementation, and participation in mock surveys. • Committed to Agency resolution against fraud and abuse. • Knowledgeable in hospice philosophy and state and federal rules and regulations. • Arrives to work and meetings on time and ready to work. • Serves on committees necessary to meet the goals of the Agency. • Respects confidentiality of patients/families and other Agency employees. • Attends local and national educational meetings/conferences for professional growth as required. • Participates in committee and/or QAPI teams as directed by the QA/Medical Records Coordinator. • Coordinates and participates in the administration of TB tests, Hepatitis B and flu vaccinations to employees/volunteers. • Monitors and maintains TB serum and vaccine serum and related supplies. • Participates in annual needle stick prevention product review. • Sees change as an opportunity and maintains a level of flexibility, which allows for adaptation to new ways of performing.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: • Possesses the ability to perform the following tasks for varying periods of time: standing, walking, sitting, lifting objects up to 75 lbs., pushing/pulling objects up to 200 lbs., climbing stairs, stooping, kneeling, twisting, bending, reaching overhead and in front of body, simultaneous use of both hands, wrists, and fingers. • Possesses the ability to perform the following tasks for varying periods of time: speak in conversational tones utilizing the English/American Language, hear conversations as well as bodily function sounds with various medical or non-medical devices, observe patients via touch sensitivity that is strong enough to palpate various areas on the human body and allow an accurate reporting of a pulse, see with vision acuity: near, 20 inches or less, and far, 20 inches or more, with or without corrective devices such as glasses or contacts, have a depth perception of three dimensions, and a sharpness of vision/focus with adequate peripheral vision to allow an acute awareness of surroundings. • Possesses the ability to work in a variety of environmental conditions that include, but are not limited to the following: adverse weather conditions, dust, fumes, tobacco smoke, noise, closed-in spaces rooms, and locations with poor or improper lighting and glare. • May be required to work at various start times and locations • Possesses the ability to operate and drive an automobile while maintaining a valid driver's license • Intermittent long-distance travel required QUALIFICATIONS: • Maintains current R.N. licensure required in Indiana • Bachelor’s degree required; Masters preferred • Maintains various certifications or instructorships as directed by the agency, such as: CPR, ELNEC, CHPN, TB validator and others • Previous experience functioning as a nurse educator or trainer • Excellent communication skills • Strong computer skills required, including the use of Microsoft Office applications and PowerPoint
