Job Description

The Chief Scientific Officer and Assistant Dean for Research at Cooper University Healthcare will lead the advancement of the research mission, overseeing the development and implementation of research programs. This role focuses on fostering collaborations, enhancing the institution's research profile, and ensuring alignment with healthcare objectives, all while promoting a vibrant environment for innovation and inquiry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the strategic vision for research at the medical school and healthcare system
  • Collaborate with leadership and faculty to identify research priorities
  • Promote interdisciplinary research initiatives across departments and external partners
  • Assist faculty in identifying funding opportunities and guide grant applications
  • Oversee the development and submission of research proposals
  • Ensure compliance with ethical standards and federal regulations
  • Foster an environment that encourages faculty research productivity
  • Build and maintain relationships with external research organizations and stakeholders
  • Develop metrics to assess the impact of research initiatives
  • Prepare reports on research activities and outcomes

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a research administration or leadership role in an academic medical center, research institution, or healthcare setting
  • Proven track record of successful grant writing and securing research funding
  • Experience in managing research compliance and regulatory issues, particularly in healthcare
  • PhD, MD, or equivalent doctoral degree in a relevant field
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a complex and dynamic academic and healthcare environment
  • Knowledge of current trends and best practices in biomedical research and funding

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with interdisciplinary research initiatives and collaborations that bridge academia and healthcare
  • Familiarity with the regulatory environment governing research in medical schools and healthcare settings
  • Understanding of the academic promotion and tenure process as it relates to research productivity
