The Senior Director of Behavior will lead the behavioral care and research initiatives at the Animal Recovery Center and Canine Annex for Recovery and Enrichment. This role is pivotal in ensuring the welfare of animals in care, while fostering a culture of learning and excellence within the team.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee behavioral care and pathway planning for ARC and CARE animals
Ensure high quality individualized care considering medical and behavioral needs
Lead and facilitate research projects related to animal behavior and cruelty prevention
Mentor and train direct care team and interns
Manage staff and foster a positive work environment
Required Qualifications
3+ years’ experience in people management
Ability to work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with all levels of staff
Comfortable with humane euthanasia decisions and procedures
Fear Free certified within 6 months of hire
Low Stress Handling – Silver certified or ability to obtain certification within first year
Preferred Qualifications
Interest in developing/overseeing research projects
Interest in writing scientific publications for peer-reviewed journals
