Job Description
As a Financial Counselor at South Shore Health, you will ensure the financial integrity of the hospital by providing essential support to patients navigating their financial obligations and benefits. Your role will involve educating patients, collecting payments, and facilitating access to public assistance programs, all while delivering exceptional customer service.
Key Responsibilities
Educate patients about financial obligations and policies
Collect medical co-pays and reconcile receipts
Screen patients for eligibility for financial assistance
Assist in completing applications for public assistance programs
Update registration information as necessary
Act as a liaison between patients and various departments
Utilize technology for effective communication and record-keeping
Advocate for patients needing state disability supplements and insurance assistance
Required Qualifications
Excellent customer service skills
Medical terminology knowledge
Computer skills
Ability to follow through and troubleshoot
Attention to detail
Strong organizational and documentation skills
In-depth knowledge of insurance plans including Masshealth, Commercial insurance, and State and Federal insurance programs
Understanding of State and Federal Healthcare Reform
