Job Description

Join Optum as a Patient Access Representative and make a meaningful impact in healthcare. In this full-time role, you'll be the first point of contact for patients, ensuring a smooth registration process while providing excellent customer service in a dynamic clinical environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Communicates directly with patients and/or families to complete the registration process
  • Utilizes computer systems to enter or verify patient data in real-time
  • Gathers clinical information and processes referrals, pre-certification, and pre-authorizations
  • Verifies insurance coverage and creates price estimates
  • Collects patient co-pays and conducts financial obligation discussions
  • Identifies outstanding balances and attempts to collect any amount due
  • Responsible for collecting data for scheduled appointments
  • Responds to patient inquiries with compassion and respect
  • Generates and analyzes patient data reports

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED (or higher)
  • 1+ years of experience in a hospital, office setting, customer service setting, or phone support role
  • Ability to work onsite at 1 Atwell Road in Cooperstown, NY
  • Ability to work the required schedule: Mon-Fri 8:30am - 5:00pm with an occasional Saturday
  • Must be 18 years of age or older

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Microsoft Office products
  • Experience in requesting and processing financial payments
  • Experience in insurance reimbursement and financial verification
  • Experience in a Hospital Patient Registration Department, Physician office or any medical setting
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology
  • Understanding of insurance policies and procedures
  • Ability to perform basic mathematics for financial payments
