At Bloom, we thrive on collaboration, bold thinking, and relentless innovation. We are looking for a Principal Supplier Quality Engineer to join our team in one of today’s most exciting technologies. This role will report to the Director, Supplier Quality and based in Newark, DE. This is a fully on-site, in office role .
As a Principal Supplier Quality Engineer, you will be a part of the team responsible for setting and delivering the quality and reliability standards for our fuel cell components across Bloom Energy; you will work closely with supply chain and engineering as part of a cross functional team. We are looking for a Quality expert with a proven demonstrated track record of improving the quality from Design maintaining it throughout its full life cycle. We are looking for someone who is hands-on, can manage both long term trends and projects, and have extensive involvement in the tools and techniques used to assess and deliver product quality and reliability. The ideal candidate will be entrepreneurial, driven, energetic, detailed, team oriented and patient with data who delivers proven timely results. Ownership of assessment of the capability of potential suppliers – identifies areas for improvement and deliver them on time in relation to Total Quality for selected suppliers.
Assess the manufacturability of new product designs and assist both engineering and suppliers with improving manufacturability. Drive supplier development / execution and deployment of manufacturing processes that meet the BE requirement.
Review prototype and production part quality document submissions from suppliers, for acceptability. Drive conversion from documentation through product design via engineered practices to deliver consistent / predictability of parts / products. Perform Supplier quality assessments at system and product level including PPAP, GR&R, GD&T.
Provide support to Manufacturing, Quality, and Engineering regarding analysis and disposition of suspect supplier material.
Drive continuous improvement throughout the supply base using quality and lean manufacturing tools. Deployment of traditional quality improvements tools / methodology from corrective action to clear roadmaps for improvements systemically / tactically at the suppliers.
Improve supplier quality processes such as assessments, supplier management, part approval, and corrective actions in a global world of connected / sub – tier / partnership relationships.
Work cross-functionally to establish quality requirements for external suppliers. Update legal contractual language protecting BE’s quality interests in relation to lowest Cost of Quality.
May drive Design and Process Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (DFMEA/PFMEA); Ability to travel 20% - 40% of time. Travel can be domestic or International in nature as the work requires.
Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Materials Science or Physics
Must be able to establish demonstrated technical credibility with the Engineering Staff (internally and with suppliers).
Demonstrated Quality Management System auditing experience / accreditation
Strong Project/Process Management skills and capabilities particularly in planning, developing, organizing, implementation of Quality processes. Proficiency in MS Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Experience with Statistical tools such as JMP, R, and Tableau / similar visualization applications.
Ability to prepare and effectively present formal reports to both internal and external customers.
Practical working knowledge and application of SPC including ability to train peers and suppliers. Proficiency in the application of DOEs and ANOVA.
Demonstrated self-initiative and sound judgment on technical projects and improvement initiatives.
Highly customer-focused (both externally and internally).
