The Accountant IV will work with Payroll Services and Tax Compliance staff to perform reconciliations of payroll tax withholdings and prepare/review all federal, state and local payroll tax returns. They will oversee the annual W-2 process, working with appropriate areas throughout the year to ensure accuracy and timely filing. The position will serve as the lead administrator for the Glacier tax compliance system, working with international employees and students to ensure accurate withholding and reporting.

Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesReconcile all tax withholdings in daily pay runs to tax deposits made by third-party payroll processors. Work with Accounting staff to post deposits to the general ledger.

Use the IRS EFTPS system to timely deposit taxes not handled by third-party processors (e.g., Form 1042, W-2G, etc.).

Work with third-party payroll processors to review and monitor timely preparation of all federal, state, and local payroll tax returns. Reconcile all returns to payroll records.

Oversee preparation, distribution, and filing of annual Forms W-2. Reconcile all box totals to payroll records. Work with Human Resources-Benefits staff to ensure accurate benefit information reported on forms. Work with Payroll Services and IT support to review audit reports and correct errors as needed. Work with third-party payroll processor to ensure timely printing and mailing of forms.

Work with payroll staff and third-party processors to review and/or prepare corrected Forms W-2 (W-2C) as needed throughout the year. Ensure timely filing with appropriate tax authorities.

Serve as lead administrator for Glacier tax compliance system. Work with international employees and students to gather information, assess residency status, determine availability of treaty benefits, and process documentation to ensure compliance with IRS regulations relating to payments to these individuals. Run periodic reports from the Glacier system and work with Payroll Services staff to ensure accurate withholding and reporting.

Prepare and file annual federal Form 1042 and all related 1042-S statements to distribute to international employees and students. Work with Payroll staff to correct and resolve issues as needed before filing.

Perform periodic survey of employee worksites and identify jurisdictions (state and local) subject to tax withholding compliance. Work with third-party party processors to register and set up in any additional jurisdictions as warranted.

Respond to notices, requests for payroll information, or payroll tax audits as they are received from the IRS or other government agencies.

Identify and develop new policies and/or website guidance relating to payroll tax issues and maintain/update any existing guidance.

Assist employees and business staff across the university with tax questions and other issues as they arise.

Other payroll-related projects as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of tax and immigration rules related to payments to nonresident aliens (NRA's).

Previous experience with Workday HR.

Target Compensation: $58,200-$65,000

Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
