Job Description

Join Southeast Eye Surgery Center as a Surgical Technician, where you'll play a crucial role in assisting the surgical team, ensuring patient safety, and maintaining a sterile environment. This position offers an opportunity to work in a fast-paced surgical setting while contributing to exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain the sterile field in the operating room
  • Ensure all surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment are properly sterilized and readily available
  • Assist in patient positioning, draping, and preparation for surgery
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and provide appropriate instruments and materials during procedures
  • Operate and troubleshoot surgical equipment, including microscopes, phacoemulsification systems, and laser devices
  • Pass instruments and supplies to the surgeon in an efficient and precise manner
  • Monitor and maintain a sterile environment, following infection control protocols
  • Assist with hemostasis, wound closure, and dressing application as directed by the surgeon
  • Manage specimen collection and labeling in accordance with facility policies
  • Clean, disinfect, and sterilize surgical instruments following proper protocols
  • Assist in transporting patients to recovery areas as needed
  • Restock surgical supplies and ensure equipment is in proper working condition for future procedures
  • Document surgical counts, instrument usage, and any intraoperative complications or variances
  • Participate in ongoing training and competency assessments to stay up to date with surgical techniques and best practices
  • Collaborate with surgical teams to identify areas for improvement in efficiency, patient safety, and workflow

Required Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration or a related field (preferred)
  • Minimum of two years of experience in an operating room setting, preferably in ophthalmology
  • Strong knowledge of sterile techniques, infection control practices, and surgical instrumentation
  • Proficiency in handling ophthalmic surgical equipment, including phacoemulsification and laser systems
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to anticipate surgeon needs
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced surgical environment
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST)
  • 3 years of progressive clinical experience in place of degree
  • Prior experience in a fast-paced medical office and electronic health records
