Join Southeast Eye Surgery Center as a Surgical Technician, where you'll play a crucial role in assisting the surgical team, ensuring patient safety, and maintaining a sterile environment. This position offers an opportunity to work in a fast-paced surgical setting while contributing to exceptional patient care.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and maintain the sterile field in the operating room
Ensure all surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment are properly sterilized and readily available
Assist in patient positioning, draping, and preparation for surgery
Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and provide appropriate instruments and materials during procedures
Operate and troubleshoot surgical equipment, including microscopes, phacoemulsification systems, and laser devices
Pass instruments and supplies to the surgeon in an efficient and precise manner
Monitor and maintain a sterile environment, following infection control protocols
Assist with hemostasis, wound closure, and dressing application as directed by the surgeon
Manage specimen collection and labeling in accordance with facility policies
Clean, disinfect, and sterilize surgical instruments following proper protocols
Assist in transporting patients to recovery areas as needed
Restock surgical supplies and ensure equipment is in proper working condition for future procedures
Document surgical counts, instrument usage, and any intraoperative complications or variances
Participate in ongoing training and competency assessments to stay up to date with surgical techniques and best practices
Collaborate with surgical teams to identify areas for improvement in efficiency, patient safety, and workflow
Required Qualifications
Associate or bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration or a related field (preferred)
Minimum of two years of experience in an operating room setting, preferably in ophthalmology
Strong knowledge of sterile techniques, infection control practices, and surgical instrumentation
Proficiency in handling ophthalmic surgical equipment, including phacoemulsification and laser systems
Excellent attention to detail and ability to anticipate surgeon needs
Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced surgical environment
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Preferred Qualifications
Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program
Certified Surgical Technologist (CST)
3 years of progressive clinical experience in place of degree
Prior experience in a fast-paced medical office and electronic health records
