Job Description

Join Middlesex Health as an Oncology Data Specialist, where you'll ensure accurate data collection and compliance within the Cancer Center. You'll play a pivotal role in maintaining the cancer registry and supporting healthcare teams with essential data for improving patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review medical records to identify and abstract cancer cases and related information
  • Collect detailed data on patient demographics, tumor characteristics, staging, treatment, and outcomes
  • Maintain an accurate cancer registry and ensure timely data entry
  • Perform data validation and quality checks
  • Monitor data trends and resolve discrepancies
  • Prepare and submit cancer registry reports to regulatory agencies
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and confidentiality regulations
  • Assist with quality assurance and audits
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers for accurate data collection
  • Participate in cancer data analysis for internal reporting and research

Required Qualifications

  • 5 years experience in Cancer Registry
  • 3 years experience reporting to national cancer databases or registries
  • Experience with cancer registry software (e.g., SEER, CoC tools)
  • Associate’s Degree in Health Information Management or related field
  • Certified Oncology Data Specialist

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3 years experience in medical coding, healthcare data, and/or oncology terminology
  • Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management or related field
