Position Summary
Howard County General Hospital's Emergency Department is seeking a Psychiatric Social Worker I to deliver high-quality mental health services and ensure continuity of care for patients in the Emergency Department. This role involves conducting psychiatric evaluations, diagnosing mental health and substance use disorders, and collaborating closely with a multidisciplinary team to develop treatment and disposition plans. The ideal candidate will be familiar with Maryland's mental health resources and adept at securing necessary insurance authorizations.
All clinical activity must be documented in accordance with Johns Hopkins and Maryland state regulations.

Key Responsibilities
Respond promptly to psychiatric consult requests from Emergency Department physicians
Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments, including psychosocial evaluations and mental status exams
Collaborate with attending physicians to confirm medical clearance and determine consult needs
Communicate assessment findings and disposition recommendations to referring providers
Secure insurance authorizations and document all authorization activity
Engage with patients, families, and collateral sources to gather pertinent clinical information
Develop and implement appropriate treatment and discharge plans
Maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation in accordance with institutional and regulatory guidelines
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree from a CSWE-accredited (or equivalent) program
Active LMSW licensure (LCSW-C preferred); licensure must be maintained throughout employment
Must meet CME requirements for Maryland licensure and renewal
Preferred Qualifications
At least two years of experience in emergency department or pediatric social work settings
Salary Range: Minimum $1.00/hour - Maximum $1,000.00/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.
In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
