As a Peer Specialist at VNS Health, you'll be a vital part of the Behavioral Health team, using your lived experiences to empower clients facing mental illness and substance use challenges. This role involves outreach, relationship building, and providing essential resources to help clients navigate their recovery journey.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct phone and field outreach to locate and enroll clients into programs
Build relationships and trust with clients and their families
Collaborate on an interdisciplinary team to address care needs
Educate clients about program services and recovery techniques
Advocate for recovery-based services
Teach symptom management and coping skills
Document in EMR according to policies and regulations
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
New York Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA) for CCBHC
Minimum of one year experience in a mental health, substance use treatment program, health care or human services setting
Effective oral/written/interpersonal communication and relationship building skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively on an interdisciplinary team
Computer literacy (electronic health records, word processing, e-mail, internet research, data entry)
Valid New York State driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with a severely mentally ill, psychological trauma, and/or substance using population
Bilingual skills in English and Spanish
