The Senior Director of Behavior will lead and oversee the behavioral care of animals at ARC and CARE, ensuring their medical and behavioral health. This role involves collaboration with various teams to implement science-based treatment, manage a dedicated team, and contribute to research projects that advance animal welfare.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee behavioral care and pathway planning for ARC and CARE animals
Ensure high-quality individualized care for patients
Develop and oversee behavioral diagnosis and treatment plans
Manage and coach behavior staff to grow skills
Lead research projects related to animal behavior and welfare
Foster relationships with medical and behavior team leaders
Required Qualifications
3+ years’ experience in people management
Master’s or PhD degree in animal behavior or related discipline (for non-veterinarian candidates)
DVM degree from an AVMA accredited veterinary school with NY State veterinary license (for veterinary candidates)
Ability to work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
Ability to work well within a team and communicate effectively
Comfort with humane euthanasia decisions and procedures
Fear Free certified within 6 months of hire
Ability to work additional hours, weekends, and cover shifts as needed
Preferred Qualifications
Interest in developing/overseeing research projects
Experience writing scientific publications for peer-reviewed journals
Low Stress Handling – Silver certified or obtain certification within the first year
