OP Radiology Nurse/Nurse Navigator at Middlesex Health summary:

The OP Radiology Nurse/Nurse Navigator provides holistic, patient-centered nursing care within the diagnostic imaging outpatient setting, focusing on evidence-based practices that respect individual patient needs and backgrounds. Responsibilities include managing biopsy procedures from scheduling to follow-up, administering injections, port access, and ensuring compliance with nursing standards and regulations. This role requires strong communication and leadership skills, preferably with radiology and oncology experience, to coordinate care and support patients throughout their treatment journey.

Position Highlights

  • Department: Diagnostic Imaging - Outpatient Center

  • Hours: Per Diem

  • Shift: Weekdays, Monday-Friday

Position Summary:

The Nurse Navigator applies the nursing process with patients and families, integrating principles that reflect sensitivity to their age-specific/developmental needs, gender, culture, religion, psychosocial and socioeconomic backgrounds in order to provide evidence-based, holistic care in a manner that respects the worth and dignity of each individual. Also responsible for practicing professional nursing as a registered nurse within the legal and ethical framework established by the Connecticut Nurse Practice Act and the American Nurses Association Scope and Standards for Nursing Practice and Code for Nurses.

Additional Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Takes the lead on biopsies from beginning to end - scheduling, education, greeting and preparing patients, charting, post-procedure care, discharging, follow-up phone-calls, monitor pathology results, ensures appropriate follow-up for surgical consult recommendations

  • Port access/deaccess

  • Administer injections

  • Code cart and AED sign-offs

  • Other duties, as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • RN graduated from an accredited school of nursing, preferably with BSN 

  • 2+ years’ nursing experience 

  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of Radiology Imaging preferred

  • Previous experience working in a cancer center is preferred

  • Demonstrates strong communication, collaboration, coaching, and negotiation skills.

  • Commitment to principles of transformational leadership and the ANCC Magnet model for nursing services.
