Job Title:

Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)

Work Hours:

Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (flexibility required)

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of a Registered Occupational Therapist (OTR), the Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) performs routine occupational therapy treatment procedures on patients or clients. The role involves assisting with treatment planning, implementing therapy modalities, monitoring patient progress, and maintaining treatment records. This position requires full hospital credentialing, including N95 Fit Testing.

Supervision Received:

Works under the general and specific direction of a Registered Occupational Therapist and medical staff. Performance is reviewed through reports, conferences, and direct observation to ensure adherence to therapeutic standards.

Supervision Exercised:

May supervise patients or clients directly during therapeutic exercises or other occupational therapy activities designed to meet specific therapeutic goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine occupational therapy treatment procedures as directed by the OTR.

  • Assist in preparing and applying occupational therapy treatment modalities.

  • Support the development of individual patient/client evaluations, treatment plans, and techniques.

  • Monitor and assess patient/client progress under OTR supervision.

  • Recommend modifications or termination of treatment services to the OTR as appropriate.

  • Instruct patients/clients on the proper use of adaptive devices.

  • Maintain safety precautions and keep therapy areas clean and organized.

  • Prepare and maintain accurate treatment records.

  • Participate in team conferences and report on patient status.

  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of occupational therapy treatments, equipment, accessories, modalities, and safety precautions.

  • Ability to build and maintain patient/client rapport and cooperation.

  • Strong communication skills to follow directions from OTRs and medical staff.

  • Competency in assisting the OTR to achieve patient therapy goals.

  • Ability to document patient progress and maintain treatment records.

  • Ability to participate effectively in team meetings and provide clear reports.

Education and Experience:

  • Graduation from a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant program approved by the American Occupational Therapy Certification Board.

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience working in an occupational therapy program within a public or private hospital, rehabilitation center, or similar healthcare setting.

Hospital Credentials Required:

  • Current Resume

  • Physical Examination (within the last 12 months)

  • Active COTA License

  • CPR/BLS Certification

  • COVID-19 Vaccination or Declination Form

  • Tuberculosis (TB) Test Results

  • TDAP Vaccination Proof

  • Varicella Vaccination or Immunity Proof

  • MMR Vaccination Proof

  • Hepatitis B Vaccination or Declination Form

  • Seasonal Influenza Vaccination or Declination Form

  • Valid Driver's License

  • N95 Fit Test Certification
