The Department of Marine Resources (DMR) is seeking applicants with strong database experience and effective communication skills to fill a Marine Resource Scientist I position in the Biological Monitoring & Assessment Division/Bureau of Marine Science located at the West Boothbay Harbor laboratory.
This position will be responsible for monitoring dealer and harvester licenses, contacting harvesters and dealers with new reporting requirements, training dealers and harvesters with mandatory reporting requirements, rejecting and correcting incomplete reports, assisting with report writing, landings data analysis, and data audits. It will also involve outreach with licensed dealers, training on electronic reporting systems, and enforcement of mandatory reporting requirements. The role includes monitoring the elver and sea urchin swipe card program and in-season quota checks, as well as training harvesters or dealers on Maine LEEDS and VESL reporting applications.
Travel throughout the Maine coastal area is required. The position may collaborate with other programs within the Bureau of Marine Science for additional projects.

Entry-level education, training, or experience in a scientific, technical, or engineering discipline with demonstrated experience in marine resource research and management or related fields.
Extensive experience in database design, maintenance, and advanced querying techniques (Access, R, SQL preferred), spatial analysis, strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to manage multiple projects, and work effectively with minimal supervision.
