The Nursing Assistant provides basic patient care under the supervision of nursing staff, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for patients, particularly in an inpatient oncology setting. The role requires BLS certification, the ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, and adherence to safety protocols in a healthcare environment with exposure to infectious diseases. Physical demands include lifting, transferring patients, and handling emergency situations with strong communication and motor skills.
DescriptionPOSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the nurse, performs basic patient care related tasks that contributes to the maintenance of a safe and comfortable patient environment.
RequirementsDUCATION: High school graduate or equivalent. Successful completion of Nursing Assistant course within one year.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: BLS certification required. Specialty certifications as required by each unit.
SKILLS: Must be able to pass skills competency checklist as required by each unit. Must be able to read, speak and write English fluently.
EXPERIENCE : Six months in a healthcare related field preferred.

Works irregular hours. Multiple simultaneous activities around patient care. Exposure to infectious diseases and x-rays. Subject to varying unpredictable situations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to handle emergency/crisis situations, prolonged, extensive or considerable standing/walking. Has knowledge of and uses good body mechanics. Frequently lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers patients or equipment. Hearing and visual acuity within normal limits. Manual dexterity and fine motor coordination required.
