The Progressive Care Unit Registered Nurse (RN PCU) provides specialized care to patients who are more stable than ICU patients but require close monitoring and frequent assessments. These patients may have complex medical conditions such as cardiac issues, respiratory failure, or post-surgical complications. The RN PCU plays a key role in monitoring patient status, administering medications, and collaborating with the care team to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform frequent and comprehensive patient assessments and document findings
• Monitor and interpret telemetry (cardiac) and vital signs, responding promptly to changes
• Administer medications, IV therapies, blood products, and other treatments as ordered
• Collaborate with physicians, specialists, and interdisciplinary team members
• Manage patients with complex conditions such as heart failure, arrhythmias, and post-operative recovery
• Educate patients and families about conditions, medications, treatments, and discharge planning
• Ensure accurate, timely charting in the electronic health record (EHR)
