ICU Nursing Job Details

  • Location: Durham, NC 27704 (North Carolina healthcare jobs)
  • Assignment Length: 13 weeks (Start: 12/15/2025 – End: 3/16/2026)
  • Shift: Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts per week (19:00 – 07:30)
  • Hours per Week: 36
  • Estimated Weekly Salary: $1780 - $1910
  • Setting: Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU), 22 beds
  • Patient Population: Adults and geriatrics
  • Patient Ratio: 1:2
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (6 weekend shifts per 8-week schedule)
  • Floating: Required to adult inpatient areas as needed
  • Scrub Color: Royal blue
  • Orientation: Bi-weekly, 36 hours
  • Flu Vaccine: Required (no exemptions)

Registered Nurse Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of recent ICU nursing experience (MICU experience required)
  • Prior travel nursing experience required
  • Active North Carolina or compact RN license (must be in hand at time of submission)
  • Certifications: ACLS, BLS, CPI, NIHSS (all must be current)
  • Experience with Epic charting system
  • Supervisory reference from the last year required
  • Flu vaccine required (no exemptions or declinations accepted)
  • Ability to float to adult inpatient areas as needed

ICU Nurse Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality, compassionate care to critically ill adult and geriatric patients in the ICU
  • Manage patient ratios of 1:2, ensuring close monitoring and timely interventions
  • Perform and assist with advanced ICU procedures: arterial line management, ventilator management, central line care
  • Administer emergency medications, titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips, and manage multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
  • Interpret arterial blood gases, dysrhythmias, and care for post-cardiac cath, post-neurosurgery, and acute stroke patients
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including respiratory therapy, pharmacy, and rapid response teams
  • Float to other adult inpatient units as needed based on census and staffing
  • Maintain accurate documentation using Epic charting system
  • Adhere to infection prevention protocols and isolation precautions
