Job Description
Join Chesapeake Oncology Hematology Associates as a Student Medical Assistant-Externship, where you'll gain hands-on experience in a collaborative, patient-centered environment. You'll assist with patient care, including administering injections, preparing lab specimens, and ensuring a clean and safe environment for both patients and staff.
Key Responsibilities
Escort patients to and from the exam room and complete patient intake
Clean and straighten exam room between patients
Prepare syringes and administer injections
Assist provider with injectable procedures
Prepare pathology and lab specimens
Respond to patient questions in office and via phone
Schedule or re-schedule appointments
Work in compliance with OSHA and HIPAA standards
Maintain medication samples and discard out-of-date supplies
Train other employees on medical assistant duties
Assist with check-in or check-out procedures
Required Qualifications
Completion of a Medical Assistant or Certified Nursing Assistant program
Professionalism and strong customer service skills
Ability to communicate with doctors and patients clearly
Must be able to lift at least 15 pounds and stand for prolonged periods
Preferred Qualifications
At least one (1) year of medical assisting experience
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work well within a team
