Job Description

Join Ombudsman Educational Services as a Special Education Teacher, where you'll lead impactful educational experiences for students with diverse needs. Collaborate with a supportive team to foster a positive learning environment and help students reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare and implement the instructional process for students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Provide a collaborative environment for students, parents, center staff, and administrative personnel
  • Establish a positive classroom climate focused on social development and group responsibility
  • Implement school-wide and classroom PBIS program; maintain data collection/record keeping system
  • Record student progress and maintain student files; prepare reports as required
  • Provide direct instruction and work in a team environment to teach collaboratively
  • Modify curriculum and assist with differentiated instruction for students
  • Act as case manager for special education students, updating IEPs and goals as required
  • Prepare lesson plans and materials for assigned class
  • Report incidents to maintain student safety and adhere to laws
  • Assist with maintaining the physical center and ensuring a positive learning environment
  • Keep up to date with research-based practices and developments
  • Respond constructively to feedback and perform other assigned duties

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in education or a closely related field
  • Meet all state teaching license and/or certification requirements
  • Licensed currently or in the process of obtaining a special education credential
  • Licensed currently or in the process of obtaining an IL professional educators license (PEL)
  • Prior experience and highly knowledgeable in curriculum development, differentiation and instruction in a classroom setting
  • Prior experience and/or knowledge in alternative and/or special educational services for at-risk students
  • Highly skilled in working with individuals with severe learning, emotional behavioral disorders, and challenging behaviors
  • Prior experience and/or highly knowledgeable in working with individualized education programs (IEP's)
  • Proficiency in providing motivation and having critical conversations with students
  • Advanced oral and written communication, organization, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem solving, and decision-making ability
  • Knowledge of relevant technology including experience with instructional technology
