Job Summary
The Emergency Department is a Level 3 trauma center, STEMI and Stroke receiving facility (ships out if stroke intervention required). This unit manages a high patient volume and requires ER nurses with recent trauma experience in Level I or II settings within the past three years.
Responsibilities
- Provide emergency care across 52 ER beds, including 4 trauma bays and 6 fast track beds
- Perform triage using ESI in designated areas
- Manage patient assignments with ratios of 1:5 (medical) and 1:6 (fast track)
- Care for patients with a variety of emergency needs, including trauma, STEMI, and stroke
- Administer and monitor ICU drips for holding patients as needed
- Perform lab draws and IV starts (phlebotomy not available)
- Collaborate with ED physicians, mid-level providers, and pediatric board-certified staff
- Utilize EPIC EMR for charting and documentation
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years Emergency Room nursing experience
- Must have cumulative Level I and/or II trauma experience within the past 3 years (Level III only not accepted)
- Epic EMR proficiency within the last 2 years
- Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS
- Preferred Certification: TNCC
- Must live outside a 100-mile radius
- No blocked scheduling requests
- Maximum of 5 days RTO
- Start dates are not flexible
Important Notes
- Average census: 200 patients/day
- ER holds intermixed within ER (no separate holding unit)
- No psych seclusion rooms
- Security is in-house 24/7
- ED Techs (2+ yrs exp) perform EKGs, vitals, blood draws, splints; PCAs (less exp) support similar tasks
- RT in ER 24/7; equipment includes Glidescope, Hamilton, and Phillips vents
- RN reads own telemetry; monitor techs also present
- Dedicated CT and X-ray in ER with transport team (RN accompanies critical patients)
- Shifts: Varied start times (7, 10, 11, 12, 1, 3) with modified self-scheduling
- Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week block
- Holiday Requirement: Typically 2 of 5 (including eves)
- Floating: Shared schedule with Foothills freestanding ER (15 min away); usually scheduled in advance
- Orientation: 1 day NEO, 1 day clinical/EPIC, 1 day on floor
- Scrub Color: Navy Blue
