The Cath Lab Technologist assists in performing diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular procedures in a catheterization laboratory. The role includes preparation and operation of specialized equipment, monitoring patients during procedures, and assisting physicians in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment. The tech ensures patient safety, comfort, and optimal outcomes throughout cardiac catheterizations and related procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and maintain the Cath Lab environment, supplies, and equipment
- Assist physicians during procedures such as angioplasty, stenting, pacemaker/ICD implantation, and diagnostic catheterizations
- Monitor and document patient vitals and procedural data
- Operate imaging and monitoring equipment including fluoroscopy and hemodynamic systems
- Scrub, circulate, and monitor Cath Lab cases as assigned
- Ensure proper radiation safety practices for patients and staff
- Maintain sterile technique and adhere to infection control protocols
- Prepare and administer contrast media and medications under physician direction
- Assist in emergency situations (e.g., cardiac arrest, code blue) with composure and competency
- Participate in on-call rotation and respond promptly to emergency call-ins
- Accurately document procedures and patient records in EMR
