This is a full time M-F 8am to 5pm position. Sanford Arts works with all patients in increase wellbeing throughout the medical journey.
Job Summary
Plans, organizes, and conducts arts-based activities in order to promote the positive benefits of creativity and to enhance the clinic/hospital experience. Practice of patient/resident-centered activities with respect to effects on the body and mind during course of disease and treatment, with particular attention to patient/resident capacity to engage in activities. Accommodates activities to meet participants' skill level and personal preference to create a range of experiences and products based on technical knowledge and supplemental knowledge regarding benefits of creativity and the Arts in Healthcare. Works with a range of ages from children through geriatrics, range in participant ability, and varying reason for needing healthcare, although will primarily work with a cancer diagnosis. Works in multiple areas as far as location of practice. Works directly with patients/residents, their family, caregivers, staff and peers. Works as contributing member of a team of professionals. Participates in arts programs and support activities. Theories of practice and activities offered based on current literature and studies, which have yielded results within this specific demographic: Oncology, the Creative Arts, and Arts in Healthcare.
Qualifications
Must have a bachelor’s degree in one of the following: fine arts, counseling, social work, mental health, or psychology with a minor in fine arts. Preference will be given to candidates with extensive study in the arts or mental health disciplines. Preference will be given to applicants who have completed a residency or internship in a healthcare setting.
Must have proven experience in the arts. Must have proven communication skills to effectively deal with a wide range of people.
Board Certified or Board Eligible Art Therapist, Music Therapist, or Registered Expressive Arts Therapist, Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Professional Counselor - Mental Health (LPC-MH), or Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) preferred.
