The Director of Mountain Operations & Facilities provides leadership, management and direction to year-round mountain and facilities maintenance operations at Giants Ridge. This position reports to the General Manager and works alongside other directors and managers in developing and executing company initiatives. Essential Functions include overseeing overall mountain operations such as lift operations, lift maintenance, vehicle maintenance, snowmaking, grooming, trail maintenance, patrol, transportation, terrain parks, roads and base operations, buildings, landscaping and water usage. Ensures ski lifts are maintained and operated in accordance with regulatory bodies and company standards. Ensures year-round facilities maintenance and seasonal transitions including landscaping, weatherproofing, preventative and regular maintenance. Oversees year-round assessments of grounds and facilities and addresses immediate action items. Creates a positive work culture providing excellent guest service. Oversees equipment and personnel, daily operations, future planning, and strategizing on mountain, grounds, and facilities improvements. Manages year-round project management, construction, maintenance, lift repairs, hill and trail maintenance. Oversees vehicle/rolling stock maintenance and compliance with DOT regulations. Monitors infrastructure and essential systems including water, sewer, temperature control, parking lots, and roads. Oversees snow removal in parking lots and access areas. Designs, implements and maintains policies and procedures. Develops employee schedules and completes payroll. Develops long and short-range maintenance plans/programs including capital projects, energy management, and budgets. Collaborates across departments to address maintenance, facilities and mountain operations needs. Inspects new constructions, repair work, projects, equipment, and work orders to ensure efficiency and compliance with regulations. Oversees invoicing and ensures proper coding and processing. Maintains training and maintenance logs. Ensures security of facilities and inventories, inventory tracking, ordering controls and procurement. Ensures safety and security training compliance. Participates in operational meetings and company functions. Manages budgets including preparation, explanation and execution. Interviews, selects, trains and directs managers and supervisors; monitors performance through evaluations and staff development. Performs other duties as assigned. Skill and Knowledge Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, effective interpersonal and communication skills, minimum five years senior leadership managing multiple departments, extensive knowledge of ski area operations, proficiency in Microsoft Suite, strong financial management skills, ability to ski/snowboard all terrain safely, and a valid Class D Driver’s License (CDL a plus). Physical requirements include ability to work extended hours outdoors in adverse weather, walk, hike, stand, climb on uneven terrain, operate snowmobiles and heavy equipment, and lift up to 75 pounds occasionally. Equipment used includes ski lifts, mechanical tools, grooming and heavy equipment, telephone, two-way radio, snowmobile and ATV equipment, office equipment, and specialized electronics. The position offers a salary range of $87,360 - $96,720 annually commensurate with experience.
