Job Description
Join Uncommon Schools as a High School English Language Arts Teacher, where you'll inspire students through literature and foster a love for reading. You'll engage students in critical thinking and discussions, preparing them for college and beyond while receiving dedicated support and professional development.
Key Responsibilities
Teach from a robust literature curriculum prioritizing inclusive texts
Conduct deep explorations of daily content to guide student analysis
Develop students’ independent and collaborative reading, writing, and discussion skills
Facilitate student-led discourse and teach evidence-based argumentation
Analyze student comprehension and adapt lessons for maximum learning
Collaborate with department and grade level teams on instructional strategies
Meet weekly with principal/instructional coach to analyze student work
Required Qualifications
A demonstrated commitment to supporting students’ social emotional and academic development
An enthusiasm for collaborating with internal and external partners in the best interest of students
A self-directed learner who solicits and implements feedback to improve outcomes and achieve objectives
Demonstrated interest in impacting K-12 students in urban schools and communities (1-2 years experience preferred)
Academic expertise in Humanities, English, Social Sciences, or related fields
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
Eligibility for NJ state certification requirements
