Job Description

The Senior Director of Behavior will lead the behavioral care and rehabilitation of animals at ARC and CARE while managing a team of behavior experts. This role emphasizes a holistic approach to animal welfare and requires collaboration across various departments to ensure the highest quality of care and innovative research initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee behavioral care and pathway planning for ARC and CARE animals
  • Ensure high quality, low stress patient care
  • Manage and coach behavior staff
  • Lead research projects related to animal behavior and welfare
  • Foster relationships with medical and behavior teams

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years’ experience in people management
  • Ability to work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
  • Comfort with humane euthanasia decisions
  • Fear Free certified within 6 months of hire
  • Master’s or PhD in animal behavior or related discipline (for non-veterinarian candidates)
  • DVM degree from an AVMA accredited veterinary school (for veterinarian candidates)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing/overseeing research projects
  • Interest in writing scientific publications
