Job Description

The Hospital Bed Board Coordinator manages bed availability, ensuring efficient patient flow and communication among staff. This part-time night shift role is crucial for monitoring admissions and maintaining a calm environment during critical situations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Regulate bed availability throughout the hospital
  • Monitor admissions, transfers, and discharges in real-time
  • Communicate with ER staff and inpatient charge nurses regarding patient status
  • Review medical admit orders for accuracy
  • Conduct walking rounds with inpatient charge nurses
  • Operate the hospital's electronic bed board efficiently
  • Maintain effective communication regarding bed delays
  • Participate in performance improvement opportunities

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • One year or more of experience in an acute care setting or strong customer service experience
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association or ability to obtain within 90 days of start date

Preferred Qualifications

  • Team player with ability to follow systems and protocols
  • Highly organized with strong oral and written communication skills
  • Confidence to communicate with community health care organizations
  • Sound judgment, decision making, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel
  • Critical thinking and resourcefulness
  • Experience in patient admittance, bed board, or administrative work
  • Strong analytical skills
