Job Summary
The Surgical Services OR RN is responsible for providing perioperative nursing care, focusing on patient safety and quality outcomes in the operating room. The role requires a strong background in orthopedics, general surgery, gynecology, trauma, and endoscopy cases. Nurses must be able to collaborate effectively with surgeons, CSTs, and the OR team to ensure efficient case flow, patient preparation, and postoperative care.
Responsibilities
- Provide safe and effective nursing care during surgical procedures
- Collaborate with Charge Nurse, ANM, CSTs, and other OR staff to support daily operations
- Assist in turnover and cleaning of operating rooms alongside the orderly team
- Participate in unit orientation, system values discussions, and preceptorship during onboarding
- Cover endoscopy procedures as part of the OR team when required
- Adhere to call requirements, maintaining 30-minute response time
Requirements
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of OR experience required
- Strong background in orthopedics (total joints, sports medicine, hands, trauma)
- Some endoscopy experience required
- Prior travel nursing experience preferred
Licenses & Certifications
- Active RN license (state-specific or compact, as applicable)
- BLS required
- ACLS recommended
Education
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program
Important Notes
- Scrubbing required: No (for RNs)
- Average daily cases: 8
- Suites: 4 plus 1 Endoscopy suite
- EMR: Epic; TDOC for instruments; ProVation for endoscopy
- Scrub color/dress code: Blue scrubs provided; OR shoes required
- Orientation: 5 days with preceptor
Schedule
- Shifts: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM (8-hour shifts, may adjust as needed)
- Weeknight Call: 4 per month (increases if staffing decreases), 3:30 PM–7:00 AM
- Weekend Call: 1 full weekend per month (Saturday 7:00 AM–Monday 7:00 AM)
- Holiday Call: Assigned if applicable during contract
- Call Response: Must remain within 30 minutes of hospital while on call
