RN Diabetic Foot Care Educator job duties:
Educate patients on daily foot care, hygiene, and proper footwear

  • Conduct thorough foot assessments and teach self-examination techniques
  • Provide and instruct on wound care and dressing management
  • Advise on footwear selection and prevention of pressure injuries
  • Promote blood glucose control and its impact on foot health
  • Teach self-management of diabetes, including monitoring glucose levels
  • Identify high-risk patients and develop preventive care plans
  • Monitor patient progress and adherence to education plans
  • Utilize tools like ABI and pedography for vascular and pressure assessment
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams for coordinated care
  • Document assessments, education, and interventions accurately in EMR
  • Refer patients to specialists and community resources as needed

The Diabetes Foot Care Specialist RN delivers comprehensive foot care services that emphasize prevention, early detection, and patient education. Responsibilities include conducting foot assessments, providing routine treatments, evaluating footwear, and coordinating care when further medical attention is needed. Key Responsibilities: Conduct initial and annual foot assessments, including diabetes history and medication review Examine foot structure, circulation, skin, and nails; document findings Provide routine foot care: nail trimming and filing, reduction of thick nails, calluses, corns, and ingrown nail portions Inspect footwear for safety and fit Refer patients to medical providers as needed Educate patients on foot care, prevention, and available resources Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic health record Qualifications: Current unencumbered Oregon RN license (required upon submission) Healthcare Provider BLS certification (required) Certification as a Diabetes Educator (CDE/CDCES) preferred Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred Prior teaching experience preferred Minimum of three (3) years clinical experience as an RN or RD, with emphasis on diabetes care and/or chronic disease management preferred
